Overview

Hosting with Cloudflare

The website consists of static pages and one server function for the EPREL lookup. Both run on Cloudflare Pages, a service of Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Cloudflare acts as our processor (Art. 28 GDPR).

When a page or file is requested, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data: IP address, time, requested address, amount of data transferred, browser and operating system, and the previous page if your browser sends it. No page can be delivered without this data. It also serves security and protection against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use this data for statistics and do not combine it with other data.

Cloudflare may process data in the USA. Cloudflare participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The data processing agreement with Cloudflare includes the EU standard contractual clauses.

Obligation check

The obligation check runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent to us or to anyone else.

EPREL lookup

When you enter a registration number in the EPREL lookup, your browser sends this number to our server function at Cloudflare. The function uses the number to query the interface of the European Commission's EPREL database (eprel.ec.europa.eu) and returns the fields the tool shows to your browser. It passes only the number to EPREL, nothing about you or your browser.

Responses stay in the cache of Cloudflare and of your browser for one day, so that EPREL is asked about each number at most once a day. We store nothing per user and do not link the number to you. Like any requested address, it appears in Cloudflare's server logs. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the tool you use (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

After the search, the number appears in the address after the # sign, so you can reload or share the result. This part of the address is never sent to a server.

Barcode check

The barcode check searches in your browser. The data from the French repairability index is stored as 100 static files on our server, split by the last two digits of the barcode. Your browser loads only the file in which the barcode you are looking for must be, and searches it. The barcode itself never leaves your browser; the request for the file reveals only its last two digits. No connection to data.gouv.fr is made. As with the EPREL lookup, after the search the barcode appears only after the # sign in the address.

Scanning with the camera

In browsers that can recognise barcodes themselves, you can also scan the barcode with the camera. Your browser asks for permission first. The camera image is analysed on your device by your browser's barcode recognition (BarcodeDetector). No image is uploaded or stored. The camera turns off as soon as a barcode is recognised, after 20 seconds at the latest.

Hints on the page

On some pages, a short hint offering a suitable tool may appear, and on desktop also when you leave the page. So that it does not appear again and again, your browser stores only the time a hint was shown or closed in local storage, and in session storage that one was already shown in this tab. This information never leaves your device, and nothing is sent to us. You can delete it in your browser at any time.

Contact by email

If you write to us, we process your details to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract is concerned, otherwise point (f)). We delete them when they are no longer needed for this purpose and no retention obligation applies.

Many pages link to sources such as EUR-Lex, EPREL, Légifrance or data.gouv.fr, and tool results also link to manufacturers' pages. Your browser only connects to such a website once you follow the link. Their privacy policies apply there.

Retention

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability (Art. 15 to 20 GDPR).

Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR). An informal email is enough.

You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example in the Member State where you live (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

Use of the tools is also governed by the terms of use.
