The French repairability index score is the sum of the five criteria (up to 20 points each) divided by ten, rounded to one decimal (Article R. 541-214 of the Code de l’environnement; arrêté of 29 December 2020). The calculator also shows the logo colour and the gap to the category average.
How the calculator works
| Step | Rule | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Criteria | Five criteria worth 0 to 20 points each | Article R. 541-214 I, Code de l’environnement |
| Score | Sum of the five criteria divided by ten | Article R. 541-214 II |
| Rounding | One decimal; round up from 5 in the second decimal | Arrêté of 29 Dec 2020, Article 2 |
| Colour | Five bands from red (0 to 1.9) to dark green (8 to 10) | Arrêté of 29 Dec 2020, Article 3 |
What the calculator does not cover
The points per criterion come from weighted sub-criteria set by a separate arrêté for each product type. The calculator does not recompute those grids; it combines the five criterion values. More on criteria, rounding and colours in the guide how the index is calculated.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the repairability index?
Add up the five criteria (up to 20 points each), divide by ten and round to one decimal. Example: 16.9 + 18.5 + 20 + 20 + 18 = 93.4, divided by ten 9.34, rounded 9.3.
Where do the points per criterion come from?
From the scoring grid for the product type, which the manufacturer or importer fills in. Values for many models are in the data.gouv.fr dataset; the barcode check shows them per model.
What does the colour mean?
The logo colour depends on the score: 0 to 1.9 red, 2 to 3.9 orange, 4 to 5.9 yellow, 6 to 7.9 light green, 8 to 10 dark green.
