Tumble dryers: repair information today and the class from 2027

Spare parts information until the end of 2026, then a class on the energy label for new units. What to show when, and what is still open.

Tumble dryers have no EU repairability class until the end of 2026. Since 27 September 2026, sellers to EU consumers must therefore show before purchase the producer’s information on spare parts, manuals and repair restrictions, where the producer makes it available (Article 6(1)(v) of Directive 2011/83/EU as amended by Directive (EU) 2024/825).

Units placed on the market from 1 January 2027 carry a repairability class A to E on the energy label (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1353). In our reading, that class then becomes the repairability score sellers must state.

The class from 2027

Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1353 adds a repairability class to the energy label for household tumble dryers. The new label is mandatory for units placed on the market from 1 January 2027, and suppliers have been allowed to use it voluntarily since 24 November 2025. The scale differs from the one for smartphones: class A means an index above 9.00, B from 7.00 to 9.00, C from 5.00, D from 3.00 and E below that. Repairability class A to E explains how the class works for phones.

Old stock with the old label

Under recital 23 of the regulation, dealers may sell dryers placed on the market before 2027 with the old label, without a class, and without any time limit. It is open whether the repairability score requirement then applies to every dryer sold from 2027 or only to units with the new label, and whether old units stay under the repair information rule. Check which label each unit carries when it arrives, and do not list old and new units of the same model under one set of information.

What goes on the product page today

Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2023/2533 applies to models with units placed on the market from 1 July 2025. End users must be able to order doors, door seals, handles, locks and hinges, lint and air filters, plastic accessories and the condensate container until at least ten years after the last unit. Motor, water pump, drum bearings, heaters, circuit boards and other parts go to professional repairers. Manufacturers publish indicative pre-tax spare parts prices in euro, an obvious source for the “estimated cost”. A block can look like this:

Example: heat pump dryer T 8 (model, years and prices invented)

Where the information comes from

From 2027, class and index will be on the label the supplier provides with each unit. Until then, the sources are the manufacturer’s documents, price list and parts portal; the free manufacturer request asks for anything missing. France has no index for tumble dryers, so the barcode check does not help. On the Pro plan, the Shopify app RepairInfoEU suggests repair portal and spare parts shop from its directory of 49 brands and keeps your requests to manufacturers, with dates, in a printable record.

Tumble dryers are also No. 9 in Annex II of Directive (EU) 2024/1799, so the manufacturer must repair them at the consumer’s request, within the scope of the ecodesign regulation.

Frequently asked questions

What does class A mean for a tumble dryer?

A repairability index above 9.00. The scale differs from that for smartphones, where class A starts at 4.00 on a scale up to 5, so classes of different product groups cannot be compared.

Do washer-dryers get a class too?

Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/1353 concerns household tumble dryers. Washer-dryers are covered with washing machines by ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2019/2023, and no repairability class for them was found.

From when must manufacturers supply dryer parts?

End-user parts from the moment the model is placed on the market; parts for professional repairers from 1 July 2025 or two years after the first unit, whichever is later. This covers models with units placed on the market from 1 July 2025.
