Washing machines and washer-dryers have no EU repairability class. Since 27 September 2026, sellers to EU consumers must show before purchase the producer’s information on spare parts, repair and maintenance instructions and repair restrictions, where the producer makes it available (Article 6(1)(v) of Directive 2011/83/EU as amended by Directive (EU) 2024/825).
Under Regulation (EU) 2019/2023, manufacturers must supply listed spare parts for ten years after the last unit of a model. In France the durability index (indice de durabilité) has applied since 8 April 2025.

What goes on the product page
Regulation (EU) 2019/2023 splits spare parts into two lists. The door, door hinge, door seals, other seals, door locking assembly and plastic parts such as the detergent dispenser must be available to end users too. Motor, pumps, shock absorbers, drum and drum spider, heating elements, circuit boards and sensors go to professional repairers, and the manufacturer may restrict them to registered repairers. That split maps neatly onto the “repair restrictions” line of your block. A block can look like this:
Example: washing machine W 700 (model and prices invented)

Ten years from when?
The period runs from the date the last unit of a model is placed on the market, not from your sale and not from the customer’s purchase. Only the manufacturer knows when its last unit of a model ships. So do not write “10 years of spare parts” yourself; take over the manufacturer’s statement, such as the year until which it supplies parts. The ten years are a requirement on the manufacturer, not a right of your customers. Full parts lists are in the spare parts periods dataset, and spare parts information explains the five points one by one.
Washing machines are also No. 1 in Annex II of Directive (EU) 2024/1799. Since 31 July 2026 the manufacturer must repair them at the consumer’s request, within the scope of the ecodesign regulation. That rule concerns the time after purchase; the information in your store comes from Directive (EU) 2024/825. Right to repair or EmpCo? explains the difference.
Where the information comes from
The regulation requires the manufacturer to publish the end-user parts list and repair instructions online from the first unit. What triggers your duty, however, is what the producer makes available to you, and whether that publication alone is enough is open. The free manufacturer request asks for all five points. The barcode check is of little use here: it searches the French repairability index data, whose washing machine entries have been outdated since April 2025.
Stores usually stock washing machines from several brands. On the Pro plan, the Shopify app RepairInfoEU suggests repair portal and spare parts shop from its directory of 49 brands, applies them once to every product of that brand, and keeps request and reply in a record you open as a print view.
France: the durability index
For front- and top-loading washing machines, France has used the indice de durabilité instead of the indice de réparabilité since 8 April 2025. The score from 0 to 10 covers repairability and reliability and is shown next to the price under the same rules. data.gouv.fr publishes the data in a separate dataset. The French repairability index explains what applies when you sell into France.
Frequently asked questions
Do the same rules apply to washer-dryers?
Yes. Regulation (EU) 2019/2023 covers household washing machines and washer-dryers with the same spare parts periods, and both appear under No. 1 of Annex II of Directive (EU) 2024/1799. The French ministry names front- and top-loading washing machines for the durability index.
Who repairs a washing machine outside the legal guarantee?
Under Directive (EU) 2024/1799, the manufacturer. If it is based outside the EU, the duty passes to its authorised representative, then the importer, then the distributor, so an importing seller can end up with it.
Is the French durability index an EU repairability score?
No. It rests on French law and is not set at Union level. Whether stores without an establishment in France that deliver to French consumers must show it is an open question.
