Vacuum cleaners: repair information for EU online stores

No class, no spare parts period, but plenty of data from France. What goes on the product page and where it comes from.

Vacuum cleaners have no EU repairability class. Since 27 September 2026, sellers to EU consumers must show before purchase what the producer makes available on spare parts, manuals and repair restrictions (Article 6(1)(v) of Directive 2011/83/EU as amended by Directive (EU) 2024/825).

The EU vacuum cleaner Regulation (EU) No 666/2013 sets no spare parts period. France applies its repairability index, including to cordless and robot vacuums.

What the EU regulation covers and what it does not

Since 1 September 2017, Regulation (EU) No 666/2013 has set durability requirements: the hose must still be usable after 40,000 oscillations under strain, and the motor must last at least 500 hours. Manufacturers must also explain, in a website section for professional users, how to dismantle the appliance non-destructively for maintenance. The regulation contains no duty to keep spare parts. It covers mains-operated and hybrid vacuum cleaners only, not cordless or robot models, nor wet, industrial and central vacuum cleaners. No newer vacuum cleaner regulation was found.

For the product page this changes little. The repair information rule does not depend on a statutory spare parts period but on what the producer makes available to you. If it names battery, filters and brush roll with price and ordering route, that belongs on the page, corded or cordless.

What goes on the product page

A block for a cordless vacuum can look like this:

Spare parts information explains what each point requires.

Where the information comes from

For vacuum cleaners, France supplies plenty of data. The free barcode check finds many models by EAN with spare parts years, delivery time and a documentation link. Because the French index also covers cordless and robot models, they can appear in the dataset too. The data comes from whoever placed the product on the French market, so it is open whether sellers elsewhere may use it as producer information. Where something is missing, the manufacturer request asks for it. The vacuum cleaner ranking shows the best-scoring models.

The Shopify app RepairInfoEU matches each product’s barcode with this data on the Essential plan and the whole catalogue on Pro. Only what you confirm goes live, with data.gouv.fr named as the source in the block.

Right to repair

Vacuum cleaners are No. 6 in Annex II of Directive (EU) 2024/1799. The manufacturer’s repair duty, however, only reaches as far as the ecodesign regulation, and that regulation has no spare parts rules, so what the manufacturer owes is an open question. Right to repair or EmpCo? separates that rule from the information in your store; groups with spare parts periods are listed under spare parts periods.

Frequently asked questions

How long are spare parts available for vacuum cleaners?

No EU rule sets a period. What counts is the producer’s statement; the French data gives a number of years for many models.

Do filters and brush rolls count as spare parts?

The rule covers spare parts needed to keep the goods in conformity. If the producer lists filters or brush rolls with availability, price or ordering route, they belong in.

Should a store outside France show the French score?

It is not an EU repairability score. Whether stores without an establishment in France must show it when selling to French consumers is open.
